SAN DIEGO — Bruce Schon, 61, died Monday, June 25, 2001, atVeterans Hospital.]

Born May 28, 1940, in San Diego, he lived in San Diego for threeyears. She served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Schon is survived by his mother, Dorothy Schon of La Puente;son Michael Andrew Schon of Salem, Ore.; daughters Julie Ramet ofKeizer, Ore., and Christy Dawn Carney of Salem, Ore.; sister GracieAdams of Escondido; and grandchildren Kylie and Nathan.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, at OakHill Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Huk officiating.

CARLSBAD — Jennie Mae Fox, 93, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001.

Born Dec. 30, 1907, in Columbus, Ohio, she lived in Carlsbad fortwo years. She was an insurance broker and had her own company inOrange County.

Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent K. Fox, in1977. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald andKathe Fox of Carlsbad, Robert and Joyce Fox of Palm Springs andVincent and Mitzi Fox of Carson City, Nev.; and grandchildren,Kathy, Linda, Larry, Steve, Vickie, Tim, Dan and Ryan.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, atEncinitas Mortuary in Encinitas. A private cremation isplanned.

Lillian Shaw, 89

OCEANSIDE — Lillian Cerveny Shaw, 89, died Wednesday, June 27,2001.

Born Sept. 9, 1911, in East Orange, N.J., she lived inOceanside.

Mrs. Shaw is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private burial is planned at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Cleone Rasmussen, 85

VISTA — Cleone Rasmussen, 85, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, in ElCajon.

Born Jan. 2, 1916, in Minnesota, she lived in Vista for 28 years.She retired in 1989 from Vista Unified School District after 28years. She was a member of Inner City Baptist Church in San Diegofor more than 50 years.

Ms. Rasmussen was preceded in death by her brother, HaroldRasmussen in 1989. She is survived by her sisters andbrother-in-law June and Tom Saporito of Carrabella, Fla., and HelenLooney of El Cajon; niece Joy Hines of El Cajon; and nephew NickSaporito of Carrabella.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, atInner City Baptist Church in San Diego with the Rev. Jimmie Hubbardofficiating.

Paul Blair, 89

ESCONDIDO — Paul D. Blair, 89, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, ofnatural causes.

Born July 8, 1911, in Dayton, Ohio, he lived in Escondido for 44years. He was a design engineer for 44 years and a member of theFirst Congregational Church of Escondido.

Mr. Blair was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eloise Blair, in1997. He is survived by his daughter, Paulette Blair Funderburk ofEscondido; grandchildren Donna Gayman of Las Vegas and TerriAmstone of Layton, Utah; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2001,at Oak Hill Memorial Park. A private cremation is planned.

Charles Nelson, 72

MEDFORD, Ore. — Charles Nelson, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.

Born Nov. 8, 1928, in San Fernando, he was a former resident ofOceanside. He graduated from Oceanside – Carlsbad High School in1946, and from USC in 1956 as a civil engineer. He served in theU.S. Army with the 11th Airborne during World War II, serving withthe occupation forces and in the Korean War.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, George and MargretNelson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Geraldine;daughters Rhonda Walters and Lori Nelson; son Karl Nelson; brothersJim Nelson and Tom Nelson, both of Carlsbad; and twograndchildren.

A military graveside service was held Friday, June 22, at EaglePoint National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore., with the familyofficiating.

Brian Creighton, 55

ESCONDIDO — Brian Arthur Creighton, 55, died Monday, June 25,2001, at Palomar Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 12, 1945, in San Diego and lived in Escondido for30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam in the FirstArtillery.

Mr. Creighton is survived by his mother Elma Hoss of Escondido;son, Ben Creighton; daughters Amber Yoder of Ridgecrest and HeatherCreighton of Poway.

Private services for the family will be held at Fort RosecransNational Cemetery in September.

Eugene Walker, 80

Exeter — Eugene Everett Walker, 80, died Monday, June 25, 2001, inVisalia.

Born March 18, 1921, in Lumber City, Ga., he worked in civilservice at Camp Pendleton Marine Base for 30 years. He received hiseducation at Clear Water, Fla., and served in the U.S. Army duringWorld War II. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Churchin Exeter.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Lorraine Warren Newell Walkerof Exeter; mother Vera Bird of Santa Barbara; son Ed Walker ofYucaipa; daughters Genie Postma and Debbie Walker, both of SanBernardino; stepsons Wesley and Warren Newell Jr., both of Alaska;stepdaughter Jeanne Ross of Roseville; sisters Dorothy Wilkerson ofSanta Barbara and Martha Cook of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; andnine great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, atSmith Family Chapel in Exeter. Graveside services will be held at10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at Exeter District Cemetery.

Rose Azarello, 89

ESCONDIDO — Rose T. Azarello, 89, died Monday, June 18, 2001, atVilla Monte Vista Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 12, 1912, in Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in Escondido fornine years.

Mrs. Azarello is survived by her husband of 69 years, Joseph A.Azarello of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Thomas and SharonAzarello of La Mesa and Joseph Azarello of San Diego; daughter andson-in-law Marlene and Norm Rauch of Poway; three grandchildren;and four great-grandchildren.

A family memorial service was held Monday, June 25.

Stephen Daniels, 59

CARLSBAD — Stephen Thomas Daniels, 59, died Friday, June 28, 2001,at home of cancer.

Born Jan. 26, 1942, in Boston, he lived in Carlsbad for 43 years.He was the owner and operator of Cable Ready Systems. He served inthe U.S. Marine during Vietnam.

Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his father, John A. Daniels,in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Candice J. Danielsof Carlsbad; mother Margaret Daniels of Carlsbad; son Stephen T.Daniels Jr., of Carlsbad; daughters Charisse M. Brunou of Carlsbadand Stephanie I. Daniels of Carlsbad; sisters and brothers-in-lawTheresa “Peg” and James Reid, Nora and Bruno Gardiner of Carlsbad,Catherine Walsh of Carlsbad and brother-in-law Harold Walsh ofBoston; grandchildren Christian and Michael.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 5, atEternal Hills Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday,July 6, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carlsbad, followed byinterment at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside.

Joyce Schutt, 69

SUN CITY — Joyce B. Schutt, 69, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, ather home.

Born July 3, 1931, in Oak Park, Minn., she lived in Sun City for 11years. She had lived in Cypress from 1965 to 1978 and in VenturaCounty from 1978 to 1990. She owned and operated a child-carecenter in Lake Elsinore for 11 years. She had worked for Giser ToolCo. in Ventura as an office manager for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Schutt is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Castens of LakeStevens, Wash., and Lynore Coppick of Wildomar; son Stephen Closeof Fountain Valley; brothers Eugene Herbert of Foreston, Minn., andGerald Herbert of Santa Cruz; three granddaughters; and twograndsons.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Elsinore ValleyCemetery in Lake Elsinore. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Perris.

LA JOLLA INDIAN RESERVATION — Johnny James Chavez, 19, diedThursday, June 21, as a result of a car accident near Pala.

Born March 18, 1982, in Escondido, he lived on the La Jolla IndianReservation. He was a member of the La Jolla Indians and workedwith his father as a landscaper.

Mr. Chavez is survived by his parents, Sergio and Terry Chavez ofLa Jolla Indian Reservation; fiance and mother of his unborn child,Alma Torres of La Jolla Indian Reservation; brother andsister-in-law Anthony and Pamela Chavez of the Pala IndianReservation; sisters and brothers-in-law Christina Chavez of thePala Indian Reservation; Sophia and Thomas Roberts, Suzanna Chavez;Melissa and Sandro Garcia and Valeria and Salbador Contreras, allof the La Jolla Indian Reservation; grandparents Jim and ShirleyHarris of the La Jolla Indian Reservation; seven uncles; six aunts;and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and viewing was held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 29, at LaJolla Indian Reservation and Harolds Road. A funeral Mass will becelebrated at 10 a.m. today, June 30, at La Jolla IndianReservation and Harolds Road. Interment will follow.

Frank Campbell Trumble

Captain, USMC, Retired

1915 – 2001

Frank C. Trumble, 85, a resident of Carlsbad, for more than 40years, passed away at the Tri-City Medical Center on May 26, 2001,after a long illness. Mr. Trumble was born Nov. 5, 1915, inAmsterdam, N.Y., to Frank Curtis Trumble and the former ElizabethJane Campbell.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Cherry, and four children,Frank E. Trumble of Oceanside, Diane McDaniel Harvey of Louisiana,Deborah Moultrie of American Fork, Utah, and Doreen Gilley ofLawton, Okla. Two sons, Scott Campbell Trumble and Craig LouisTrumble, preceded their father in death. Mr. Trumble also leftthree stepchildren, Michael Cherry of Coldwater, Mich., ThomasCherry of Bellevue, Wash., and Stephen Cherry of Kennewick, Wash.Surviving Mr. Trumble, too, are 20 grandchildren and fivegreat-grandchildren.

Frank was graduated from the Winnwood School in Lake Grove LongIsland, N.Y., in 1934 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on May1, 1935. He saw active duty in the Pacific Theater during World WarII. Among other assignments during the Korean Conflict, he servedwith the First Marine Division at the Chosin Reservoir. Includedamong his 14 decorations and citations were the Navy Cross, Legionof Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Purple Heart and the ChinaService Medal. Frank Trumble retired as a captain on June 30,1957.

After his retirement from active duty, Captain Trumble worked as aMarine Corps exchange administrator at bases in Barstow, El Toroand Camp Pendleton. Frank retired from that profession in June1985, and spent much of his retirement pursuing his passions ofphotography and fishing. He was an avid reader and was determinedto understand and master his home computer. Frank Trumble belongedto the Vista Masonic Lodge, Shrine (Al Bar Temple), Oceanside ElksLodge, Sojourners, Chosin Few, Warrant Officers Association, NavyLeague, Retired Officers Association and the Mustangs.

A memorial service to celebrate Frank C. Trumble’s life andaccomplishments will be held at the Marine Memorial Chapel on CampPendleton at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6. It is suggested that any giftsin Frank’s memory be directed to the charity or health careorganization of your choice.
