Incident Heart Failure in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
Jun Gu, Zhao-fang Yin, Zuo-jun Xu, Yu-qi Fan, Chang-qian Wang, Jun-feng Zhang
Summary: This study showed that after PCI, the predominant subtype of HF is HFpEF, and higher BNP levels, lower eGFR levels, and atrial fibrillation are independent risk factors for new-onset HF. Being male and being prescribed with ACEI/ARB medications are negative predictors for new-onset HF. Additionally, long-term ACEI/ARB therapy is associated with reduced risks of developing all three subtypes of HF (HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF), compared to beta-blocker use.

Evolution, coronary artery bypass surgery and outcomes of right ventricular dysfunction in ischaemic cardiomyopathy
Zhuoming Zhou, Bohao Jian, Guangguo Fu, Haoliang Liu, Yang Huang, Zicong Feng, Suiqing Huang, Huayang Li, Mengya Liang, Zhongkai Wu
Summary: This study investigated the impact of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) on prognosis and treatment choice in patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM). The results showed that RVD was associated with a worse prognosis in patients with ICM and that CABG provided no additional survival benefits to patients with moderate-to-severe RVD. The evolution of RV function had important prognostic implications and emphasized the importance of both pre- and post-therapeutic RV assessment.

Summary: In patients with heart failure due to ischaemic heart disease, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) was associated with greater long-term survival compared to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The risk of death was lower after CABG, and increased linearly with quintiles of hospitals where PCI was the preferred revascularization method.

Coronary Artery Spasm-Related Heart Failure Syndrome: Literature Review
Ming-Jui Hung, Chi-Tai Yeh, Nicholas G. Kounis, Ioanna Koniari, Patrick Hu, Ming-Yow Hung
Summary: Although heart failure can worsen over time, some cases can be reversed with appropriate treatments. Coronary artery spasm is becoming the most frequent cause of heart failure worldwide, but it is often under appreciated and misdiagnosed. It can lead to various complications such as syncope, arrhythmias, and myocardial ischemic syndromes. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent these complications. This review focuses on the epidemiology, clinical features, pathophysiology, and management of patients with coronary artery spasm-related heart failure.

Hybrid coronary revascularization versus coronary artery bypass grafting for multivessel coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Lauren Kari Dixon, Umme Akberali, Ettorino Di Tommaso, Sarah J. George, Thomas W. Johnson, Vito Domenico Bruno
Summary: Compared with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR) has a slightly higher short-term mortality but the difference is not significant in patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease (MCAD). Similar rates of mid-term survival and other short-term post-operative complications were found between the two groups. HCR has shorter intensive care unit stays and reduced requirement for blood transfusion.

Outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with heart failure with a midrange ejection fraction
Salil Deo, Varun Sundaram, Jayakumar Sahadevan, Padmini Selvaganesan, Srikrishna Madan Mohan, Joseph Rubelowsky, Richard Josephson, Yakov Elgudin, Ahmet Kilic, Brian Cmolik
Summary: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) improves survival in heart failure patients with severely reduced left ventricular systolic function (LVEF). However, little is known about adverse cardiovascular events after CABG in patients with heart failure with midrange ejection fraction (HFmrEF; LVEF > 40% and < 55%). In this study, data from the Veterans Affairs national database were analyzed to compare mortality and heart failure hospitalization rates among different patient groups.

Summary: The epicardial transplantation of atrial appendage micrografts during CABG surgery was shown to be safe and feasible, resulting in an increase in viable cardiac tissue at the infarct site. This approach demonstrated initial therapeutic effects on the myocardium and has the potential to serve as a delivery platform for cardiac gene therapies.

Sex differences following percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass surgery for acute myocardial infarction
Donna Shu-Han Lin, Yu-Sheng Lin, Jen-Kuang Lee, Hsien-Li Kao
Summary: This study compares the outcomes of women and men with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). It found that women had worse in-hospital and long-term outcomes, especially in the PCI group. Women who underwent PCI were more likely to be admitted for heart failure during follow-up.

Can GRACE Risk Score Predict Mortality and the Need for Thrombolytic Treatment in Acute Pulmonary Embolism?
Esra Donmez, Sevgi Ozcan, Irfan Sahin, Murat Ziyrek, Ertugrul Okuyan
Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the GRACE risk score in acute pulmonary embolism (PE) patients for 30-day mortality and the need for thrombolytic treatment. The study found that the GRACE risk score, along with the PESI score, were independent risk factors associated with 30-day mortality and the need for thrombolytic treatment. The GRACE risk score showed high sensitivity and specificity in predicting mortality, and its combination with the PESI score helped define high-risk PE patients and predict poor prognosis.

The association between hemogram parameters and the development of contrast-induced nephropathy in patients presenting with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction
Esra Donmez, Sevgi Ozcan, Irfan Sahin, Ertugrul Okuyan
Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of hemogram parameters in predicting the development of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients with non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (non-STEMI) treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The results showed that age, diabetes, congestive heart failure, volume of contrast medium, mean platelet volume (MPV), and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLr) were independent risk factors associated with CIN development. Additionally, MPV and NLr were demonstrated as predictors of CIN development in non-STEMI patients treated with PCI.

Predictive Value of CHA2DS2 -VASc Score in Patients with Contrast-Induced Nephropathy After Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction
Esra Doenmez, Sevgi Ozcan, Orhan Ince, Irfan Sahin, Ertugrul Okuyan
Summary: This study evaluated the CHA2DS2-VASc score as a surrogate for contrast-induced nephropathy and its relationship with major adverse cardiac events during hospitalization. The study found that age, diabetes, history of stroke, volume of contrast medium, left ventricular ejection fraction, and CHA2DS2-VASc score were associated with contrast-induced nephropathy development. A CHA2DS2-VASc score of >=2.5 was associated with high sensitivity and specificity in predicting contrast-induced nephropathy development.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between circulating lumican levels and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). The results showed that lumican levels were higher in the advanced CAD group and positively correlated with the Gensini score.
